Dinner tonight was so good that I decided to take pictures. Ok, not really. It was good, but I took th picture before we knew how good it would be. I thought the blog could use some pictures to brighten it up a bit.
The other day at Sam's we found 97% lean ground turkey reduced for quick sale for only $1.27 per pound. It is normally only $1.97 per pound, so it isn't that big of a savings, but 70¢ is 70¢! We bought all of the packages that they had (5 - 5lb packages. Each package is 2 -2 1/2lb packages shrink wrapped together.)
So for dinner tonight, I used 2 1/2 lbs. of turkey and made a Salisbury Steak type dish that was the easiest thing ever.
Season the ground meat however you like it. I used some Penzeys Sandwich Sprinkle, salt & Pepper and accidentally a small amount of Penzeys Breakfast Sausage seasoning.
Form in to equal sized patties, and brown in a lightly sprayed pan. While the meat is browning, slice some mushrooms and 1/2 a large onion you find kicking around the fridge. Cook it until soft, then dump 3 cups of beef broth into the pan and bring to a boil. By the time the broth/onion/mushroom mixture boils the patties should be browned. Put the browned patties into a baking dish with high sides and pout broth/onion/mushroom mixture over top. Cover with foil and bake until the inside is cooled through.
Serve over rice pasta.
Nothing fancy. but it got 4 enthusiastic thumbs up!
